Standing Tall

Standing Tall

This image reminds me of oh, so many of the late Galen Rowell's impressive images (and, no, I wasn't conciously trying to be derivative when I took this... at least, I don't think so!). It was such a wonderful sunset sky with an obliging cloud floating by. That silhouetted tree stands tall in our view of the Smoky Mountain ridgeline across from our mountain home, and is present in so many of my images taken there. The tree's growth throughout my images mark the passage of the years. I'm posting this image today in honor of a friend's father who is celebrating his 95th birthday. These days our culture does not honor our elders or value their wisdom and experience, and we are the lesser for losing that appreciation. So today, Mr. S, this photo is for you to commemorate a long life, lived to the fullest.

  • Thanks. What a beautiful tribute to Dad. How special this will be to his family and all those blessed with elders.

  • This is a very fine photograph that has an almost vintage feel about it...perhaps that is because places like this seldom see big changes other than the trees growing just a shade. Very smooth.
